Description | As far as the religious attitude of the German-Moravian writer Jakob Julius David (1859-1906) is concerned, the following three points are widely known among experts: his origin as a Moravian Jew, his conversion to Catholicism, and his preference for humanist ethics rather than religious. In spite of this fact, there are many religious motifs to be found in his oeuvre. Th e paper tries to provide evidence of David’s image of Christianity as rather affirmative and intuitive, whereas his Jewish characters are rather burdened by their faith. |
