Citation
Description It seems that the parliaments were a natural part of the political life of Bohemia during the reign of dukes, and that all matters concerning doings in the province, from tribute, oaths of loyalty and calling up reserves to defend the borders, to the election of princes (dukes). This was a joint session of the duke and "elder" noblemen, who were occasionally also joined by "those of lower birth" and from the middle of the 12th century also by the bishops and abbots of the important manorial monasteries. The Bohemian parliaments guarateed the stability of the political arrangement of hereditary Přemyslid possessions and represented a firm linkpin for public life in Bohemia during the reign of the dukes.
