Description The author of the presented contribution deals with the problems of the Bologna Declaration and its realisation in the sphere of university education and Slavonic studies. He then analyzes the concept of philological-area studies implemented in the Institute of Slavonic Studies at Masaryk University (Brno) and reflects upon the inevitable changes in methodology as a consequence of this implementation. He also manifests the pitfalls of area studies finding the possible solution in the application of philological-area structure based on modern comparative aprroach supported by good teaching materials including comparative encyclopedias.
