Description | The aim of the paper is to describe the satisfaction of two basic biogenic human needs – eating and sleep – by comparison between two groups of adolescents. A studied sample is represented by 15 year-old adolescents who participate in ELSPAC project (European Longitudinal Study of Parenthood and Childhood). The sample was divided into two groups – adolescents with mental disorders (N=447) and adolescents without diagnosis (N=2838). The data was analysed by standard statistical methods, using these methods the differences in selected variables between groups were determined. We can think about potential influence of mental disorders on eating and sleeping habits on this basis. Based on the results, we came to a conclusion that more fundamental influence lies in the family (especially on eating). We found that adolescents in both observed groups help with preparing food, families can find time for common dining and perceive it as an opportunity to their conversation. However in a group of adolescents with mental disorders there are significantly more individuals with age-inadequate nutrition. This group also shows a shorter sleep duration and suffers more pronouncedly from the lack of sleep. |
