Description The paper deals with the most frequently used methods within the research in motivational strategies in the foreign language classroom. The goals of the research, research questions, research methods, instruments and analysed samples are presented. As such it is conceived as a foundation for the intended research entitled Use of Motivational Strategies in Teaching English to Selected Groups of Students of Tertiary Non- Philological BA Programmes in CR (at 4 selected universities), which is planned as a quantitative-qualitative research, i.e. it deployes analysis of the observed lessons, a questionnaire and a semi-structured interview with teachers.
