Description | This book offers you a full-range of materials that will fulfil your needs regarding implementation of multicultural education. It gives you a great many inspirational suggestions how to bring the theme into your teaching practises, both in History and Social Studies Basics as well as in Geography or Arts and Crafts. Our intention was not to put forward unambiguous and conclusive “truths” about “other” cultures. By doing so we would only create more stereotypes. What we did instead was rather to help you boost your own reasoning about important aspects of social life, nature and social functions of stereotypes, and about various consequences of their usage. To achieve this we focus on themes such as how stereotypes arise, formation of social exclusion, identities and cultural differences, and how relationships are shaped between societies and cultures. If we had addressed these themes on an abstract theoretical level only without providing you with analyses of concrete cases, you and your students would probably not benefit much. This is why we follow three goals simultaneously: to provide you with information about specific cultures, religions and identities in different historical periods; to show you applicative meaning of this theoretically based social scientific knowledge; and to help you find a way to combine these two in order to lead your students to think critically about themselves as well as about cultural and social environment we live in. |
