Description The paper is focused on the development of Old Czech graphics (12th–15th ct.). On the basis of representative material, including proper nouns, and on the basis of the conducted research characteristic features of the following stages are outlined: 1. the period of so-called primitive orthography and its two versions (11th–13th ct.), 2. the period of digraphic orthography (older and newer – 14th ct.), 3. the period of coexistence of digraphic and diacritic orthography (15th ct.). Attention is also paid to contributions to this topic as provided by various linguists focusing on Czech studies from the viewpoint of linguistics. Questions that have not been satisfactorily solved up to now are also included.
