Description The article deals with the phobia in terms of the psychosemantic approach. Using the Meaning system (Kreitler, Kreitler, 1990) the meaning profiles of the phobic and control groups were compared. This study confirmed the research hypothesis that individuals showing clear phobic fear will differ from the control group in the way of the meaning assignment that was operationalized as the frequency of use of each meaning variable. To capture the characteristics of phobic individuals, it should be noted especially passivity in terms of reluctance to actively intervene in run of events in the outside world, focus on internal experience world and imagination, and emotional instability. In more detail, we can also mention a specific cognitive style consisting in very efficient use of analytical and abstract thinking to the environment control. Moreover, there is the reluctance or inability of cognitive control of their internal experience world in which emotions dominate over rational elements. Even in relation to the external environment they do not focus on the overall context of the situation, but rather overestimate the details and emotionally charged signals. This may lead to the rigidity of their behavior.
