Description | The aquatic environment is contaminated with many types of chemical compounds that can be dissolved in water or bound to solid particles and in sediments. In complex mixtures is very difficult to estimate their toxic potential. Many types of hydrophobic persistent pollutants are able to activate arylhydrocarbon receptor (AhR) that might have negative consequences for organisms’ health. Suitable tools to assess AhR-active (dioxin-like) compounds in aquatic samples are in vitro bioassays in combination with chemical analysis. |
