Description Research the monograph, is based on an original archival research and it, aims to create a comprehensive and clear picture of the development of sugar industry in the Czech lands from its beginning to the end of the First Czechoslovak Republic (1938) and it focuses on the presentation of this form in Moravia and Silesia. The monograph is divided into two chapters. The first one covers the period since the late 20s of the 19th century to the end of the First World War (1918). These were years of searching, experimentation, early successes, but also many economic and technological declines. The first workshops were generally small and had the character of manufactures, and they were established by the members of the aristocratic estates. Gradually, the representatives of citizen and business or financial strata penetrated among them. Since the end of the 60s also peasant sugar factories were formed. Gradually, the sugar industry in the Czech lands was becoming an important export item. Connecting sugar industry to the financial community in the monarchy began. Agrarian Party was increasingly taking the sugar beet growers side. The top of the sugar industry came in the First Republic, which is described in the second chapter. In these years sugar factories in Moravia and Silesia were represented by two groups – in central and northern Moravia it was group around John Vacy, in southern Moravia it was the Viktor Stoupal s sugar group, which represented an example of the agrarian capital s penetration into the sugar industry in Moravia. Between the World Wars the Czech and Moravan sugar industry passed a period of great prosperity, although the boom did not last long.
