Description | The phenomenon of the Latin subordinate clause in the so called 2. dependency is, how it seems, in the specialized literature in its complexity rather ignored. The aim of the paper is to offer an analysis of this syntactic phenomenon. The subjunctive form in the subordinate clause in the 2. dependency is determined by several factors: the tense of the new superordinate clause, the tense of the original main clause and the relation between the original main and the subordinate clause. By combining all of the elements of these 3 factors (3 factors by 2 elements is equal to 2 cubed) 8 types of subordinate clauses in the 2. dependency are generated, where each type is characterized by the corresponding subjunctive form, which can be consequently derived from the above mentioned type. Attention is paid even to the both remaining moods, the potentialis and the irrealis. |
