What will you learn?

The goal of the study programme is to provide graduates with employment potential in socio-pedagogic and guidance work. The study Social pedagogy and counselling will familiarize students with the major socio-pedagogical concepts, approaches, theories, and schools of thought. Systematic preparation for work with clients will equip students for how to social pedagogy work and to counselling work. The program will lead to conceptualization and understanding of social relationships of different types and severances of social and individual issues and will also prepare students for individual research and professional analytical work.

Practical training

A mandatory part of the curriculum is practical training (100 hours), which is categorized into a number of specialized course units. In addition, the study plan includes a mandatory course of practical practice (individual plan) of 70 hours. Every practice students choose to study once in any semester of study. The socioeducational practice where it takes place is chosen by students themselves, according to their own interests and future career direction. The practical training is complemented with course Social and Counselling services and Work with a client.

Graduates have acquired the analytical and decision-making competence to take on managerial and programme posts in educational, social care, and cultural institutions, as well as mass media and humanities-oriented institutions, that require critical and rational thinking.

Admission requirements

Deadline for submitting applications: August 1 - November 30

Who the programme is intended for: The programme is intended for graduates of the same or related Bachelor’s degree programme (the similarity of the fields will be assessed based on the application).

Subject matter of the entrance examination: The entrance examination consists of a knowledge test containing questions with open answers. The result of the entrance examination determines the applicant’s admission. The questions are based on the topics of the Bachelor’s state examination of the Social Pedagogy and Counselling. The length of the test is 60 minutes.

Waiver of the entrance examination: The entrance examination may be waived for applicants who have passed with excellent (A), very good (B) or good (C) results in the Bachelor's examination in the single-subject or main plan of study of the Pedagogy or Social Pedagogy and Counselling programme at the MU Faculty of Arts. The entrance examination may also be waived for applicants whose overall result of the Bachelor's State Examination in the single-subject or main plan of study of the Pedagogy or Social Pedagogy and Counselling programme at the MU Faculty of Arts was assessed as “passed with excellent results”. However, no more than two years, i.e. four semesters, can have passed since the final state examination was taken. Applicants can ask for a waiver for the entrance examination via the e-application form, section "Application for waiver of the entrance examination".

Follow-up studies

After completing the Master’s degree study programme, it is possible to continue further studies in a doctoral degree study programe in pedagogy at the Faculty of Arts or at the Faculty of Pedagogy of Masaryk University.
