Financial support from the Programme Johannes Amos Comenius was awarded to A Lifetime with Language: the Nature and Ontogeny of Linguistic Communication (LangInLife) project. "This research focuses on the language of the individual, which is an indispensable means of communication with the environment for every human being. It explores how language is acquired in childhood, how it functions in adulthood and what challenges people face as they age. Research based on a combination of linguistics, psychology and neuroscience will enable us to respond adequately and effectively to the global challenges of contemporary society related to language," said Pavel Caha, the project leader, adding that a total of six departments at the Faculty of Arts will be involved in this linguistic research: Department of English and American Studies, Department of Czech Language, Department of Linguistics and Baltic Languages, Department of German, Scandinavian and Netherland Studies, Department of Classical Studies and Department of Romance Languages and Literatures.
