Faculty of Arts MU cancels first week of classes due to floods
The decision was made by Dean Irena Radová. Classes will begin on Monday, 23 September 2024.
The start of teaching at the Faculty of Arts a hundred years ago did not go smoothly. One of the complications was caused by deputy pear trees in the garden of the orphanage in Falkensteiner Street (today's Gorkého Street). Because of their harvesting, to which the employees of the state railways were entitled, the construction of the new building of the Rector's Office (today's Building C) had to be postponed for several months, and the renovation of the premises for teaching students of the Faculty of Arts in today's Building A was also delayed.
After a hundred years, we want to commemorate this now funny story (at that time it was a serious complication) with a student competition. Send us your artistic renditions of the Pear Affair by November 30, 2021, to propagace@phil.muni.cz. The form is not limited: write short stories, compose epics, paint pictures, sculpt statues, compose music, code! We look forward to your ideas.
The five best creations, selected by a committee chaired by Vice-Dean Jana Horáková, will be awarded valuable prizes.
Join the celebration of the centenary of the beginning of teaching at our faculty!
