Benzo[c]phenathridine alkaloids display many significant biological effects and are very intensively studied during pastr years. In addition to long time known sanquinarine and chelerythrine also the minor benzo[c]phenanhtidines sanquilutine, chelilutine, chelirubine, sanquirubine a macarpine are discussed.
