Differential diagnostics (dif.dg.) of various symptoms or prognostic stratification of patients still represent one of the most crucial and demanding activities of the internal medicine specialists. Some of the symptoms are common for more diseases and differentiating their causes sometimes requires expensive examination methods. On the other hand, other diseases are heterogenic and "unpredictable" and determining the future course of the disease is still impossible even when using the most modern tools. Submitted project is focused on dif.dg. of diseases and their prognostic stratification using clinical markers and markers derived from the clinical biochemistry and molecular biology. It interconnects topics of four Ph.D. students, it motivates them to cooperate with pre-graduate students and at the same time it prepares novel topic for potential other Ph.D. candidates.
Aims of the project are as follows:
i) to identify circulating microRNAs simplifying the dif.dg. of dyspnea and proteinuria
ii) to identify novel markers enabling dig.dg. of pancreatic lesions
iii) to create the database of the DM2T patients that would enable their follow-up and prognostic stratification
iv) to determine the prevalence and prognosis of patients with cirrhotic cardiomyopathy
Ph.D. and pre-graduate students, together with their mentors will participate on the project. Student-physicians will be responsible for patients’ enrollment and all students will be involved in biological material handling, collection, storage and special examinations performance.
Within the first year of the project, we expect to present first pilot results on the local and international congresses and to prepare review articles. All Ph.D. students will work on their Ph.D. thesis.
