Description | The Benedictine convent in Rajhrad has a glorious history, which started probably before the Slavonic missionaries Cyril and Metoděj came to Moravia. The history of the Rajhrad convent was treated by various historians, archivists and other literature scientists like B.Dudík, P.J.Šafařík, V.J.Pokorný or K.Uhl. In the 20th century mainly V.Dokoupil contributed to the preservation of the library. The first part of this article presents the history of the monastery, its significant librarians and other men related to the Benedictine library. In brief, we also comment how the monastery achieved the books, we mention the existing card catalogue, types of signatures and the distribution of the books in the main hall of the library. The second part is dedicated to the description of our research on French books in the History Hall and in the vestibule of the Benedictine library. From vast index of topics we have chosen the most significant exemplars of the French book fund. Our research is still in process, we have 400 titles (containing 800 volumes in French) at our disposal, which forms approximately one third of all books in the Rajhrad library. Other books in the depositaries also will be processed during our ongoing research. |
