Description The subject of the article is an analysis of the concept of information, which can be regarded as an anomaly in information science. First, there is considered scope of the concept of information. Then an analysis of twenty-three significant definitions of the concept of information, which have been created in the framework of information science and of the related fields, is realized. Some conclusions about the character of the concept of information are inferred from the obtained results and the possible future of this concept in information science is outlined. One of the conclusions is that information is a concept, which in some sense covers a whole of reality, i.e. that it is a concept which is called transcendental within the classical logic. This fact seems – with regard to that that information science is a special discipline – to be a serious methodological problem, which has three solutions: a transformation of information science into a universal science, a narrowing of the universal concept to the special concept, or a replacement of the concept of information by the other concept.
