Description | The study focuses on investigation of the cognitive (hope, optimism), social (positive relations), emotional (positive mood), and demographic correlates and dependencies of subjective health in Czech sample. The research sample consisted of 1409 respondents (age 15 to 75, 80% females, 20% males). We used The Adult Hope Scale (Snyder et al.,1991), The Life Orientation Test (Scheier et al., 1994), The Trait Well-Being Inventory (Dalbert, 1992), and the Scale of Positive Relations (Ryff, 1989). Demographic data were also obtained to examine links to the respondents' subjectively assessed health. The online data collection took place in November 2013, SPSS was used for data analysis. The analysis revealed significant correlations (p<0.01) between good health and positive mood, life satisfaction, optimism, hope and positive relations (r=134). Detailed stepwise regression analysis revealed that subjective health is most linked with subjective well-being which is influenced by optimism and high hope. Out of demographic variables, health is most associated with current activity of respondents and age: the healthiest are those with full time job with higher education, at the age of 18-39 years. Results of the study comply with findings highlighting the importance of positive emotions and positive thinking in good health and optimal development of an individual. The study was supported by GACR, project No. 13-198085S. |
