Description For the city Brno, the 19th century was the period of unprecedented economic and cultural flourishing. The members of the Brno middle classes, many of whom were of German and Jewish origin, would frequently get the furniture for their homes, clothes and luxury fashion accessoires in Vienna. Nonetheless, a large number of Brno merchants tried to meet this demand and offered in their shops products made by Viennese artisans. As a result, a large collection of 19th-century jewellery came into existence in the Moravian Gallery in Brno in the 1950s-1980s when the descendants of the wealthy Brno Bourgeoisie were forced to sell art objects and family jewellery.
