Description The article presents partial findings of the research of language learning strategies in blind students studying English language as a foreign language. The research was carried out as a case study using mixed methods approach. The research sample comprised eight blind students of Czech universities. Data was collected by Strategy Inventory for Language Learning (Oxford) and semi-structured interviews. In this article, declared usage of memory strategies according to Oxford’s classification is presented. Some strategies are not or can not be use dat all by blind students (e.g. semantic maps, using imagery, using mechanical techniques, using physical response or sensation). A difference between using memory strategies by the blind and the sighted was found (avg.=3,13; comp. avg.=2,26 in sighted students of grammar schools, Vlčková, 2007).
