Description | The paper summarizes the experience of a theatre tour with the Czech translation of the comedy Curculio, which was created at the Department of Classical Studies in Brno in 2017 and received 15 performances across the Czech Republic in various staging conditions and in front of diverse audiences. Different audiences reacted to Plautus' humor differently, but they always found their own, with a few exceptions. Therefore, the tour with the translation production proved that Plautus' humor could entertain even contemporary audiences. At the same time, thanks to this experience, it is possible to imagine better how it might have worked on the audience at the time of its creation. |
