Description | The use of the body in mass, surface or space became a significant and frequent means of artistic expression for artists across the art world in the 1960s and 1970s. Female artists, including those of contemporary Czechoslovakia, incorporated the body’s self-concept as part of their identity formation into their artistic strategies. Based on a formal analysis of the work of several artists who created impressions and castings, this survey study presents the work of Eva Kmentová in confrontation with the innovations taking place in post-war world art, and these connections are loosely reflected here in a broader context. In parallel, contemporary emancipation efforts to legitimise the art of women artists and to incorporate their views, attitudes, strategies and experience into art historical discourse are also considered. |
