Description | In our talk we examined Czech game press from 1995 to 2020 in order to determine whether a national image of Japanese games formed that would be distinctively different from the images of other countries’ games in terms of magnitude or tone. Our results suggest that the "japaneseness" of japanese games was stressed distinctively more and consistently than the national origins of games made in other countries. The two main tendencies were 1) japanese games othered as "weird, crazy or perverted" and 2) the game elements of Japanese games were described as different (more focus on story, young protagonists, avoidance of american clichés, different genre preferences). |
