Description The paper deals with the phenomenon of interlanguage interference in connection with the process of learning a second foreign Slavic language. Thus, the influence of one language already adopted on the new language by the same language family and the existence of those languages in the consciousness. The presentation will attempt in the first part to define the term linguistic interference and the causes of its creation, at the same time mentioning the specificities of the Czech and Slovak languages along with their similarities and differences. The results of a case study based on qualitative data collection (interview, analysis of documents) among students in the study field of the Czech language, literature and culture of the University of Belgrade, who chose Slovak as their second Slavic language, will then be presented. The research will deliver data acquired from students in the beginners' group (3rd year of bachelor's degree programme) and advanced students (4th year of bachelor's degree programme). Presenting the results reveals not only what negative transfers students face (phonetics, morphology, and lexicology) but also offers ways to prevent unpleasant transmission in the learning process and increase the efficiency of acquiring another Slavic language.
