Description The aim of the paper is to describe how parents of tutored children perceive incentives from the school when providing private tutoring for their children. The main source of data are semi-structured interviews with parents, which were carried out at a time when private tutoring for pupils had already started or when parents were seriously considering providing it. From the perspective of parents, the school does not or cannot satisfy the educational needs of their children, often despite their efforts to communicate their dissatisfaction to the school. They subsequently resign to the changes at school and procure private tutoring.
