| Description | This report provides an overview of the anniversary issue No. 74 of the Hefte für Ostasiatische Literatur (May 2023) and presents the various translations of East Asian literature selected for the issue in the overarching context of the Ukraine war. The first issue of Hefte für Ostasiatische Literatur (HOL for short) was published 40 years ago. Since then, numerous volunteer translators, literary scholars and sinologists have been working together on an interdisciplinary basis with the aim of making texts from China, Korea and Japan that are unknown in the DACH countries accessible in well-founded German translations. The HOL is currently edited by Hans Kühner, Anna Stecher, Thorsten Traulsen and Asa-Bettina Wuthenow. The anniversary edition was published this year. According to the editors, the impact of the ongoing war in Ukraine prompted them to focus on texts that deal with war-related topics in the latest issue. |
