Description In response to current trends in ELT and reader development versus contemporary teaching practice in Czech schools, a teacher-student project was developed at the English Department, Faculty of Education, Masaryk University Brno, the main objective of which was to pilot and evaluate scaffolding as a suitable teaching method to facilitate reader development through reading authentic materials in and outside the English class. The journal article gives a thorough account of the project premises, procedures and outcomes.
