Popis The aim of the present contribution is to summarize the forms of the numerals ‘one to ten’ in East Chadic languages and to analyze their structure and mutual relations from the point of view of internal etymology, as well as to show external parallels in both genetic and areal perspectives. In the genetic perspective cognates from Central and West Chadic languages are quoted, supplemented by data from other Afroasiatic branches. The areal parallels are chosen from more or less neighbouring language groups, namely Central Sudanic, Fur, Maba, Tama, Daju, all of which are Nilo-Saharan, plus the Niger-Congo languages, Ful and Adamawa, from Chad.
