The project will provide to Czech philosophical audience the first detailed and complex survey, analysis and theoretical reflection of hermeneutical and neo-pragmatic philosophy in the USA. Bloom, S. Cavell, R. B. Goodman, J. Margolis, H. Putnam, R. Rorty, etc.), hermeneutics (E. D. Hirsch, Jr., R. Palmer, R. Kearney, J. C. Risser, M. Westphal, etc.) and in the lively tradition of transcendental idealism (R. W. Emerson) and pragmatism (W. James, J. Dewey). The special part of the project will be devoted to comparison of American pragmatism and European hermenutical thought. The applicant is also going to analyze the discussions within contemporary Anglo-American philosophy concerning ethics of democracy, national tradition and the historical role of the USA in the world of global conflicts.
