HR Award – Find out what topics are related to gender equality in academia
The Nora Gender Information Centre offers on its YouTube channel a new series of short informative videos on this topic.
Its main objective is to ensure good accessibility of relevant information to different target groups. It also includes a requirement for bilingualism, adherence to a unified visual style, or even suggestions for gender-sensitive language.
The newly issued Directive On the methods and principles of internal and external communication of the Faculty of Arts, Masaryk University (No. 2/2022) provides a list of communication channels used by the Faculty for sharing information internally and externally, in accordance with the HR Award Action Plan. It also describes their target groups and the content of the messages they intended to disseminate. Although it may seem trivial, clearly naming the communication channels and determining how they are used can significantly facilitate the availability of information. In simple terms, those to whom the information is addressed will know where to look for it, and those who disseminate it will disseminate it through appropriate channels.
In the second part, the directive provides some basic principles for faculty communication: the obligation to follow the rules of the Unified Visual Style of Masaryk University, to observe the principle of bilingualism, and to work appropriately with gender-sensitive language.
The basic requirements of the directive will be specified in a series of subsequent guidelines. The first two, on bilingual communication and selected language conventions (including gender-sensitive language), have already been published. They provide concrete guidance, practical examples, tips, and recommendations. Documents on websites, social media, and the use of LCD screens and advertising space will follow this.

Like the previous one, it will be used to create a new university-wide gender equality plan. In addition, the three-year gap will allow us to monitor how far we have progressed in this area.
