The project aims to advance our understanding of teachers’ professional vision (PV). PV refers
to the knowledge-based processes of noticing and reasoning about classroom situations that
guide teacher actions. The project focusses on student teachers and experienced teachers of
English as a foreign language and their PV in/on action in communicative classroom situations.
It aims to explore: English (student) teachers’ PV in action in communicative activities; the
differences in (student) teachers’ PV in action and on action; the differences in experienced
teachers’ and student teachers’ PV in/on action. The specific focus is on the visual attention
aspect of PV. Eye tracking data will be complemented by other methods of data collection
(video recordings; teacher interviews; stimulated recall) and analysed both quantitatively and
qualitatively. The project outcome will be a series of papers in national and international
journals. The findings will contribute to our knowledge of teachers’ thinking and actions,
professional development processes, and teacher education in general.
